10 Things You Can Buy Instead of an iPhone 18 Pro
An iPhone 18 Pro can be an incredible smartphone, but spending around ৳1.5 lakh on a phone also comes with an opportunity cost. Here are 10 specific things you could buy or invest in instead, from a better workstation and professional equipment to skills, business experiments, savings and experiences.

Let's assume you have ৳1,50,000 sitting in your bank account. You can buy an iPhone 18 Pro.
Or you can use that same ৳1.5 lakh to upgrade your skills, income, health, productivity and financial security.
I'm not saying buying an iPhone is bad. I'm asking a different question:
What if you used the same money to upgrade your life instead of your phone?
Here are 10 things I'd consider.
1. A Mac mini + monitor
Budget: ~৳80,000–৳1,20,000
If you're working in marketing, design, development, content or business, a proper workstation can be significantly more useful than a new smartphone.
You can get a Mac mini, a decent monitor, keyboard and mouse within a similar budget depending on the configuration.
Now you have a machine for:
- Coding
- Video editing
- Design
- Research
- AI tools
- Business operations
- Content production
Your phone is mostly an endpoint. Your computer can become a production machine.
2. A complete podcast/content setup
Budget: ~৳70,000–৳1,20,000
Instead of upgrading your phone camera, build an actual content studio. For example:
2 microphones + audio interface + lights + stands + tripod + accessories
You could produce:
- Podcasts
- Interviews
- YouTube videos
- Reels
- Educational content
- Brand content
One iPhone gives you a better phone. A content setup gives you the infrastructure to create hundreds of pieces of content.
3. Learn a high-income skill
Budget: ৳20,000–৳50,000
Spend the money on learning something that can increase your earning capacity. For example:
- Advanced performance marketing
- Python
- AI automation
- Sales
- Negotiation
- UI/UX
- Video production
- Data analytics
But there's a catch. Don't buy 15 courses. Pick one skill and spend 6 months actually using it. The objective isn't collecting certificates.
It's being able to say: "I can do something people will pay me for."
4. Build a small business experiment
Budget: ৳30,000–৳1,00,000
Instead of buying the phone, use the money to test an idea. For example:
৳10,000 → Landing page + domain
৳20,000 → Design/development
৳30,000 → Marketing
৳20,000 → Content
৳20,000 → Freelancers/tools
You now have a real-world experiment. Maybe it fails. That's fine. You learn about customers, pricing, distribution and sales. And unlike buying a phone, you might discover a business.
5. Build a 3–6 month emergency fund
Budget: ৳1,00,000–৳1,50,000
If you don't already have an emergency fund, this should probably be considered before another expensive gadget. Keep enough cash available to handle things like:
- Job loss
- Medical expenses
- Family emergencies
- Unexpected business expenses
- A sudden relocation
There's something psychologically powerful about knowing: "I can survive for a few months even if my income stops."
That's an upgrade too. Just not one Apple can advertise.
6. Buy a proper office/workstation setup
Budget: ৳1,00,000–৳1,50,000
Imagine spending the money on the place where you work every single day. A possible setup:
Chair: ৳25,000
Desk: ৳15,000
Monitor: ৳30,000
Keyboard + mouse: ৳10,000
Lighting: ৳10,000
Storage/accessories: ৳10,000
Remaining: productivity tools or upgrades
If you work 8 hours a day, your workspace is probably a better place to invest than the device you use for 2–3 hours of consumption.
7. Take a 7–10 day international trip
Budget: ~৳1,00,000–৳1,50,000
Go somewhere you've never been. Meet people. Study businesses. Observe how cities work. Visit companies, universities, markets and communities.
Travel doesn't automatically make you smarter. But exposure changes your reference point. You start realizing that the way you've been doing things isn't the only way. Sometimes one trip can give you an idea worth more than the trip itself.
8. Invest ৳1.5 lakh instead
Budget: ৳1,50,000
You could also simply keep the money.
Depending on your financial situation, risk tolerance and investment options, you could put it toward diversified long-term investments rather than a depreciating consumer device.
The important concept isn't finding a magical investment. It's understanding opportunity cost and compounding. A ৳1.5 lakh phone becomes an older phone in a few years. Money invested for the long term has the opportunity to grow.
9. Spend ৳50,000 on your health
Budget: ~৳30,000–৳50,000
You could build a basic health upgrade:
Gym membership: ৳10,000
Running/walking shoes: ৳8,000
Better food: ৳15,000
Fitness equipment: ৳5,000
Remaining: health-related expenses
And then invest the remaining ৳1 lakh elsewhere. Because there's a weird contradiction in modern life: We upgrade our phones every few years while keeping the same unhealthy lifestyle for decades.
Your body is the hardware you're actually going to use for the rest of your life.
10. Buy back your time
Budget: ৳30,000–৳1,00,000
This might be my favorite one. Find the repetitive tasks that consume your time. Then pay someone or use software to remove them. For example:
Virtual assistant
Video editor
Designer
Bookkeeping
AI automation
Social media management
If spending ৳50,000 allows you to recover 100 hours over several months, you've effectively bought back your time. And time is the one thing you can't upgrade later.
So, what would I do with ৳1.5 lakh?
I wouldn't necessarily put the entire amount into one thing. I'd split it. For example:
৳50,000 → Emergency fund
৳30,000 → Skill development
৳30,000 → Business/content experiment
৳20,000 → Health
৳20,000 → Investment
Now the same ৳1.5 lakh is working across five different areas of your life.
That's the bigger idea. An iPhone 18 Pro can be an excellent phone.
But if you're still struggling with your income, skills, savings, health or productivity, another flagship phone probably isn't the biggest problem you need to solve.
Sometimes the smartest upgrade isn't the thing you can show people.
It's the thing that makes you harder to replace.
